The Need

For too many in Uganda, lifesaving care is out of reach when it matters most.

With just one doctor for every 33,000 people, most communities—especially rural ones—face severe shortages of medical professionals and critical services. Over half of Ugandans live more than 3 miles from the nearest health facility.

The lack of access leads to devastating consequences — especially for mothers and children.

Doctor Shortage

Just 1 doctor serves every 25,000 people, with even fewer resources in rural areas.

Limited Access

Over half of Uganda’s population lives more than 5 kilometers from a healthcare facility, creating a significant barrier to essential care.

Maternal and Infant Mortality

15 women die every day from pregnancy-related causes. 41 out of every 1,000 children won’t reach age five—often due to treatable conditions.

In Uganda, we’re implementing OneWorld Health’s core programmatic priorities—tailored to the country’s most pressing needs and strongest opportunities for impact.

Our Model
Womens and Children's Health
We’re expanding maternal and child health services at key facilities like Masindi and Bweyale—offering safe deliveries, family planning, postnatal care, and public health education to support thriving families.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Our NICU at Masindi Kitara Hospital is one of the only facilities in the region equipped to care for premature and critically ill newborns. Babies stay an average of 10 nights—often arriving under 2kg and leaving with new hope.
Emergency Surgery & Critical Care
Obstetric emergencies, trauma, and urgent surgical cases are now being treated closer to home. Our surgical program in Masindi reduces life-threatening delays and saves lives every week.
Diagnostics & Laboratory Services
On-site labs and diagnostic equipment are expanding across Uganda—reducing patient wait times, preventing misdiagnosis, and enabling faster treatment for chronic and infectious conditions.
